Well were not too long back from D1 Qualifying here at our home course Ebisu and were almost lost for words!  The world of drifting took a massive leap forward and the D1 Drivers prove to me again how they are the best in the world.  The BIG news here was the line in to the famous last corner was thrown wide open with the use of cones prohibiting the “short cut” course being stopped.  This aloud a select group of “nutters” to go as hard as possible towards the hump far right of years before and launching themselves, often getting airborne before the famous hump, at jaw dropping speed.  The select few who managed it unscathed pulled of what can only be described as outrageous passes and progressed through to the Saturday round, leaving some of the other drivers in their wake!  This will cause much controversy and discussions about safety due to the velocity these cars were moving at towards the wall but it made for some spectacular viewing!  There was plenty of carnage as some couldn’t shave of the speed round the main judging corner and collected the tyre wall and they even included the main culprit of this ludicrous behaviour – Daigo Saito in his JZX100 (Who else?!?)

Others who were just as determined to have no regards for their own life were:

Hibino (Ae86)(offcourse!)
Nakamura
Matsui (180sx)
Robbie Nishida (JZZ30 Soarer, unfortunately had mechanical issues and never made a qualifying pass though)

These guys had even other D1 Drivers scratching their heads in disbelief!

Nakamura Qualified Top and Kuma and Suenaga both made the cut. Many others who adapted to the new ”D1 Line” well so lets see who steps up tomorrow!

Ill maybe grab some video if i get a chance tomorrow but heres some pics for now!

That’s right, big news here is that ”Mobil 1 – The Grid“, the Motorsports Magazine that’s transmitted around the world, chose Ebisu Circuit (Where else) for one or two features on drifting here in the country where it all started, Japan!  Team Orange and ourselves at Powervehicles were the hosts and did all we could to show “The Grid“s viewers what Drift is all about!!
We were all interviewed for the show so unless we end up on the cutting room floor we will be making a personal appearance on your TV sometime in the next month or so.

Everyone by now surely knows that Ebisu is the home of drift but what people outside of Japan don’t so much associate here with is Circuit Racing.  It’s time to address this as the complex boasts 2 dedicated Japan-national Level Race circuits – The Higashi [East] and Nishi [West] courses.   Taking advantage of the fact these courses are on our doorstep we are now offering a full menu of “Grip” centred activities for those who like to participate in Time Attack and circuit racing events.

G1GP International Drift Open Competition Series in Ebisu circuit, Japan.

 Press Release

We at powervehicles.com along with our partners Team Orange and Ebisu circuit, have launched a new 3 round drift series starting April 2010.  The event will take place on each Friday before the tri-annual 36 hour non-stop drift Matsuri’s (Festivals). This will be part of a complete package called “Drift Heaven Weeks“, which starts the week leading up to the Matsuri weekend, Kicking of with Practice Days Mon-Wed allowing you to set your car up and familiarise yourself with the many tracks.  On the Thursday, a Drift Master class will be hosted by Team Orange D1 Drivers Nobushige Kumakubo and Naoto Suenaga.  On Friday we will hold the G1GP foreigner only competition with trackside winners party afterwards with Team Orange and the week will then climax with the famous drift matsuri. Every Drifter, from every country has to experience the 36 hour non stop Matsuri’s once in their life and with cars available to buy at the track at very reasonable costs (from a basic drift car, all the way up to a d1 machine) there really is no excuse not to make the “pilgrimage” to Ebisu!  Some customers are already planning on sending their own machines from overseas to Japan just for these events and also so they can compete on D1 and D1SL events.  The G1GP is a truly international competition open to drivers from all countries and top names from Australia, France, Ireland, UK, NZ, Russia and Holland to name a few are already planning their trips this year.  The competition welcomes drivers of any level, however expect the last 16 battles to be fiercely fought, as each driver will be pushing hard to win the Title, and prove their country to have the best drivers.  The competition will be organised and judged by the famous D1 drift stars Team Orange and Low to Medium spec cars will be used by all drivers this year to keep the competition inline, but with plans of expansion to a Pro-class for the best cars and drivers in the near future this is definitely a series to watch!

Various online and international magazines and Japan’s  video option will be covering the event.  If you want more info for your publication, freelance coverage can be supplied on request.

This year the most famous track here at Ebisu has undergone a bit of a remake.  As you can see the mounds of earth have disappeared in favour of a flat tarmac layout as you can see from these pics.
