We managed to grab some pics and some words with Mr Saito Daigo, the reigning D1 Champion, when he was up here practicing for the next D1 round.  He was using his number 2 car, a JZX100 Chaser which runs an almost identical spec to his championship winning JZX100 mark II.  Daigo’s just back from attending and driving at Gatebil in Norway in which he told us he had great fun.

We caught up with Winds Auto in the pits at Minami whilst they were up practicing for the next D1 Round.  Unfortunately we never got to see the car running as it suffered a front knuckle failure, but they will soon have that fixed and we will see them back here for the competition.

You can tell there is a D1 round coming up, when you arrive at Minami circuit and see no fewer than 5 D1 cars, here practicing.  The 2 JZX100 monster Chasers of Kunny’z and Diago Saito, Koguchi’s famous 180sx, Jinushi’s 4-real works green JZZ30 Soarer, and Wind’s Autos’ Hachiroku SR20 Turbo were all here honing their game.

Meet Mr Kodama-san and his monster D1 180SX…. and yes his day job is really as a monk!  There are quite a few monks in Japan who are into the car scene but as far as i know Kodama-san is the only one who has made D1 driver status.   He was up practicing on the Minami D1 circuit for the upcoming D1 round here.  He was going hard and soon ripped his rear bumper off but that never seemed to slow him down much!

We caught up with Maeda san practicing in his Up Garage AE86 20V Turbo at the Minami course. We’ve seen this car compete in D1 for the last few years and  it still remains one of the last AE86s that are still competitive today.  The 20V 4AG is coupled with a TD06 turbo, NOS, and Motec management.  It used to be one of the loudest cars in D1, but in keeping with current regulations, has been quietened somewhat.  It still sounds great tearing round the track and next time we will try to get some action shots!
