Local tyre Shop Garage R held one of their regular Soukouki, or track day, here at Ebisu.  What’s unusual about this one though is the fact it’s on Ebisu’s Nishi Short Course, one purpose built for Drift by Track owner Nobishige Kumakubo.  Normally the long version of the track is a “Grip” only course so when a track day is booked for drift, it’s a rare chance that many people jump at!  The course is awesome fun with a totally blind entry as you switch over the crest of the hill.

Emily was out in her S14 Silvia, the last outing it will have for a while as it’s consuming water and will need a strip down to see what the problem is. Unfortunately we never got any snaps of Emily in action as I was onboard giving her advice all day, but she went real well - I was very proud!  I was in my JZX90 backup car as my JZX100 was still away getting repaired after its little shunt.

One of 2 Garage R Silvias

A great way to carry you and your mates wheels to a track day….. just need someone to drive the Kei-truck!

The guys from GP Sports were also in attendance.  This is one of the 180SX’s Kawabata Drives in D1 Comps and it has their own G-Sonic Evolution Wide Body Aero installed.

Some shots of the practice sessions in the morning….

GP Sports show why their D1 Team is one of the top in Japan.  Your heart flutters when you see the site of that Blue 180sx in your mirror on the track!

This D1 SL car always puts on a show, with lots of smoke and angle

My JZX90 Cresta has around 400ps and is a great practice machine for when my JZX100 is having a rest!

Naoto Suenaga showed up in his Champion D1SL S13 Silvia for a shot of this track.  He’s the circuit manager here at Ebisu, but still he wont pass up a chance to grab a few laps with friends on this rollercoaster track.

This little thing was skidding around the pits….

Its RC Car style bands on its rear tyres allowed it to drift!

So what’s this all about?  Well the organisers laid a Remote Control Drift car from Yokomo on the track at the end of the home strait and lined everyone up at the other end…. The result was this foot race, first one to get to the car got to keep it!

The afternoon saw us compete in a competition, judged over the short version of the track on single passes

Fellow local driver Sumika made it through qualifying along with myself.

This blue 180sx drove well…..

…. but the D1SL S15 won the event.

I managed 7th on the day, not bad in my practice car.

Soon the sun set on another day of Drift in Ebisu.  Next up here is the practice session then D1 Divisional, so won’t be long till we are back on track again.
